Ad Budget Calculator for Mobile App Developers
Mobile app UA is its own discipline. You're not optimizing for clicks or leads — you're paying for installs that may or may not become D30 retained users. The whole game is CPI vs LTV, and creative fatigue eats your CAC alive if you sleep on it.

Tell it your monthly ad spend, business type, and goal — it'll split the budget across the right networks in seconds.
Apps live or die by post-install economics, not click-through rates. Your CPC dashboard is meaningless. The numbers that matter: D1/D7/D30 retention, ARPDAU, payer conversion rate, and 90-day LTV by cohort and source. If those aren't wired into your MMP (Adjust, AppsFlyer, Singular) before you spend a dollar, you're flying blind.
2025 CPI ranges by channel:
Apple Search Ads: $2-$8 iOS, often the cleanest intent signal you'll findGoogle App Campaigns: $1.50-$5 Android, $3-$10 iOS, broader but blackboxMeta: $1.80-$5 Android utilities, $4-$12 iOS, scales hard but learning phase is expensiveTikTok: $3-$12 depending on category, gaming and social apps overperform hereApplovin / Unity: $0.50-$3 for hyper-casual gaming, mostly incentivized traffic — handle with care
The channel mix question is really an OS question. iOS apps post-ATT are SKAN-constrained, so Apple Search Ads + Meta SKAN + TikTok is the typical stack. Android lets you run probabilistic attribution, so Google AC and Meta carry more weight, with TikTok rounding it out.
The single biggest mistake mobile teams make is optimizing to install volume instead of payer cohorts. Google AC will happily pour you 10,000 cheap installs from countries where nobody pays. Meta's lowest-cost bidding finds the users least likely to convert to your offer. You need to bid to purchase or subscribe events as soon as you have ~30-50 conversions per ad set per week. If you can't hit that volume, your campaign won't exit learning and your CPI will drift up 40-60% over 30 days.
Creative is the lever, not targeting. Algorithms have eaten targeting on every major platform. What's left is the hook — the first 1.5 seconds of a video ad. Plan to ship 4-8 new creative concepts every two weeks, plus iterations on winners. Budget 25-40% of total UA spend on creative production. UGC, gameplay capture, and meme-format ads consistently beat polished brand spots on TikTok and Meta. Apple Search Ads doesn't need creative — it needs keyword discipline and custom product pages tied to ad groups.
LTV-to-CPI ratio is the only KPI that scales. Targets:
- Subscription apps: CPI ≤ 30% of D90 LTV, payback in 6-9 months
- IAP-driven games: CPI ≤ 25% of D90 LTV, payback in 3-6 months
- Ad-monetized apps: CPI ≤ 50% of D30 ARPDAU × 90, payback in 30-45 days
What you can do at most budget levels: validate one channel, prove a CPI/LTV ratio, then scale. What you can't do: run six channels at $5k each and expect any of them to exit learning. What you shouldn't attempt: scaling Meta past $1k/day without a dedicated creative pipeline. You'll burn $20k learning that lesson.
Example
A subscription fitness app with $25 D90 LTV and $20k/month budget: $7k Apple Search Ads (branded + category keywords), $7k Meta Advantage+ targeting subscribe events, $4k TikTok Spark Ads with 6 UGC variants, $2k Google AC iOS. Expect 3,000-4,000 installs at a $5-7 blended CPI, with payer CPA in the $40-60 range.
