Ad Budget Calculator for Local Awareness Campaigns
Local awareness is the only goal where brand-building and direct response collapse into the same campaign — someone driving past your shop today is the same person Googling you tomorrow. Most local businesses underbuild here because they can't see the lift in last-click reports.

Tell it your monthly ad spend, business type, and goal — it'll split the budget across the right networks in seconds.
The trap with picking 'local awareness' as your goal: half the teams who select it actually want lead gen (form fills, quote requests) and the other half want sales (e-commerce within a delivery radius). Pick local awareness only if your conversion is physical — foot traffic, phone calls, direction requests, or in-store visits.
The channel stack that works in 2025, in order:
- Google Local Services Ads (LSA) — pay-per-lead, typically
$25-$80per call for home services,$15-$45for legal/medical. This is direct response masquerading as a local channel. Run it first. - Google Search with location extensions —
$2-$12 CPCdepending on category, with 'near me' modifiers and a5-15 mileradius bid adjustment. - Meta Reach campaigns geo-fenced —
$4-$9 CPMin most metros,$2-$5in smaller markets. Use the Reach objective, not Traffic, with a1-day click / 1-day viewwindow. - Performance Max with store goals — only if you have
5+ physical locationsand clean store visit data flowing in. Below that, PMax burns budget on garbage placements. - Waze Ads — underrated for businesses on a commute route.
$1-$3 CPMand the intent is unmatched: people are literally driving past you.
Bidding strategy: for the LSA + Search portion, use Maximize Conversions with a target CPA once you have 30+ conversions in 30 days. For the awareness portion on Meta, use Reach with a frequency cap of 2-3 per week — anything higher and you're paying to annoy the same 8,000 people. Don't use Lowest Cost on awareness; you'll pay for impressions in geographies that don't matter.
What success looks like at this goal:
- Branded search volume up
20-50%over90 days(check Google Search Console) - 'How did you hear about us?' surveys showing
15%+answering 'saw your ad' or 'just driving by' - Direction requests in Google Business Profile climbing month over month
- Call volume from GBP and LSA tracked separately — they behave differently
Attribution window reality: local awareness has a 30-90 day lag between first impression and walk-in. If your CFO wants weekly ROAS reporting, this isn't the goal to run — they'll kill it in week 3 before it works. Set expectations on day one that you're measuring on a quarterly cadence with branded search, GBP actions, and survey data as proxies.
Radius rules: 3-5 miles for restaurants, dentists, salons. 10-15 miles for specialty medical, auto repair, fitness studios. 25-50 miles for destination services (wedding venues, specialty surgeons, B2B local). Going wider than your actual customer pull radius is the single biggest budget leak — pull a zip code report from your POS or CRM and cap targeting there.
Budget floors: under $800/month, put everything into LSA + Search. The awareness layer needs at least $15-25/day sustained for 6 months to move branded search numbers. Bursting $3,000 over four weeks then going dark produces almost nothing measurable.
Example
A 2-location physical therapy clinic spends $3,500/month: $1,800 on Google LSA (yielding ~35 calls at $50/call), $900 on Search with 7-mile radius, $600 on Meta Reach geo-fenced to high-density zips, and $200 on Waze. After 4 months: branded search up 38%, GBP direction requests up 2.4x, intake forms attribute 22% to 'saw you online/around.'
