Ad Budget Calculator for Ecommerce Sales & ROAS
Sales campaigns are the only paid objective where the math is unforgiving: every dollar in needs a tracked dollar out. Unlike lead gen or awareness, you're not buying signal — you're buying transactions, and the platform's bidder needs purchase events to optimize toward.
Use the Ad Budget Calculator
Tell it your monthly ad spend, business type, and goal — it'll split the budget across the right networks in seconds.
The channel mix that actually works in 2025 is narrower than agencies pretend. Meta Advantage+ Shopping and Google Shopping/PMax carry 70-85% of spend for almost every DTC brand under $5M/year. TikTok Shop is real now but volatile — treat it as the third leg, not the first. Pinterest and Snapchat only earn budget if your creative is genuinely visual-first (home, fashion, beauty).
Typical 2025 CPA ranges by channel, assuming a clean feed and 6+ purchase events per week:
- Meta Advantage+ Shopping:
$18-$45CPA,$0.80-$2.50CPC - Google Shopping (branded + non-brand mixed):
$12-$35CPA - Google PMax:
$15-$40CPA, but heavily branded-cannibalization risk - TikTok Shop ads:
$22-$60CPA, higher variance - Pinterest Shopping:
$25-$55CPA in fashion/home, brutal elsewhere
Bidding strategy. Don't use Target ROAS until you have 50+ purchases in the last 30 days per campaign. Below that, tROAS will under-deliver and starve itself. Start on Maximize Conversion Value (Google) or Highest Volume with value optimization (Meta), let it gather data for 2-3 weeks, then graduate to tROAS once the bidder has signal. On Meta, Advantage+ Shopping eats this decision for you — let it.
The confused-goal trap. Teams pick "sales" when they should have picked something else more often than you'd think:
- AOV under
$30with no subscription/repeat: you probably need a lead-gen funnel (email capture, then sell), not direct-response purchase ads. Single-order LTV won't pay for paid acquisition. - New brand, zero organic demand, no creative library: running purchase-optimized ads will burn
$3-5Kbefore the pixel learns anything. Start with engagement or traffic to seed audiences and build creative. - B2B-ish products with 30+ day consideration: "sales" objective forces last-click thinking on a multi-touch journey. Run lead capture instead.
- Local pickup or service-area only: ecommerce sales objective wastes 60%+ on out-of-area impressions. Use local awareness or lead gen with geo-fencing.
What success looks like. Month 1 is almost always rough — expect blended ROAS of 1.8-2.5x while the pixel learns. Month 2-3 settles into your true performance band. If you're not at break-even ROAS by week 8 with $5K+/month spend, the problem is rarely the bidder — it's pricing, offer, creative, or LTV math. Fix those before adding budget.
Attribution reality. Meta's 7-day click / 1-day view is the default but overstates incrementality by 15-30% versus a holdout test. Google's data-driven attribution credits PMax for branded searches it didn't cause. Build a simple weekly check: total ad spend vs. total Shopify revenue minus organic baseline. If platform-reported ROAS says 4x but your blended MER (revenue / total ad spend) is 1.8x, trust the MER. Run quarterly geo holdouts or PSA tests if spend exceeds $50K/month — anything less and you're flying blind on incrementality.
Example
A skincare DTC at $25K/month with $68 AOV and 65% margin sets a 2.2x break-even ROAS, 3.0x target. Allocation: $14K Meta Advantage+ Shopping, $8K Google PMax + Shopping, $2K TikTok Shop, $1K creative testing on Meta. Month 1: 720 orders at 2.3x. Month 3 after creative refresh: 1,050 orders at 3.1x blended.
